First, you have to think what kind of a keyboard you have been using in your computer USB keyboard, is it a wireless keyboard, or is it a regular PS/2 keyboard connection, because depending on the type the way of troubleshooting may vary. And you should also check whether it is a hardware issue or a software with this keyboard testing tool.
It allows users to quickly check that all the keys on their computer keyboard are functioning correctly, check the keyboard LED’s, look at the internal scan codes being generated by the keyboard and measure typing speed.
The down and up stroke of each key is registered and highlighted on a graphical image of a keyboard. Each time a key is pressed a variety of state information is updated in the window and on the keyboard picture.
Possible uses of the software include testing faulty keyboards, batch mode testing of keyboard in a production line environment, a typing tutor aid to practice your typing and examining the internal key codes.
If your USB Keyboard stopped working, you can try to disconnect it and connect it back on the fly. USB connections are plug and play, so if you are running Windows and your USB keyboard doesnt work, you can try unplugging and plugging it back to re-establish the communication, or simply try connecting it to another USB port. If this still doesnt work, check the led lights on the keyboard; are any of them on? If they are, is the computer acting slowly? You may need to restart it at this point to refresh your computer memory and resources to get it back to normal speed, or perhaps it needs maintenance by running disk cleanup and disk defragmenter.

Troubleshooting this type of keyboard connection is slightly different from the USB type. PS/2 connectors are not plugged and play as it is the case of USBs. In a way, these keyboards are more reliable because there are no drivers to install in the operating system. In the case of USB connectors, every time you plug a device into your computer for the first time, it installs the drivers for it which means that it may bring issues from time to time.
PS/2 keyboards always have to be plugged in before starting your computer up . If it stops working while using the operating system, in most cases it is not the keyboard. The more likely reason could be Windows freezing up due to a process in the background that slows down the computer. This could also be because you dont have enough RAM Memory in your system and have too many things open at the same time which in turn slows down the computer. Check your mouse for example, is it moving fast enough? If it is not, that should indicate you that your keyboard isnt broken, but instead, your computer is acting up and slowing down.
There are three things you can do:
Here are few things to follow one after one :
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and select the Task List button to go to the Windows Task Manager.
Under the Application tab select any application that says Not Responding (if there is any) and press End Task. A confirmation window will appear asking you to end it.
Press End Task again and wait for it to close. Do the same for every application not responding. You can also try this for any type of keyboard. Restart the computer.
Identify the issue
Get yourself some time to find out what made your keyboard behave this way,- Check few things like whether your keyboard is still powered on? How many of the keys are still functioning? If some keys work and others don’t, the issue can be mechanical. Another thing to mind is whether all the keys are unresponsive, Press Caps Lock to see if that key’s indicator light goes on or off. If the lights associated with each key don’t turn on and off when you press them, the first thing you should do is to restart your computer. If rebooting your machine still doesn’t seem to solve the issue, there are a few other tricks you can try to get the keyboard to work again.
If one or more of your keys aren’t working,It’s time to get down into deep, I meant that you should check to see if anything is stuck underneath them. Just hold your keyboard and turn it upside down to dislodge some of the debris that might be kept under it and causing such dysfunction of your keyboard.
Observe the problem is gone or persisting, if yes then go and buy a can of compressed air or two. You can use compressed air to try to blow out whatever is stuck under your keys. The slender straw attached to the front of the can will allow you to push as much air as possible under the keys, and will likely expel any small pieces of debris that may be residing there.
If you’re still having trouble with a laptop keyboard, there are other options at your disposal. Most laptop keyboards can be removed. You may reach a point where it’s worth pulling up the keyboard from your laptop’s deck to make sure that the connector is firmly inserted in your computer. We’ll get into how to pull this off a little later.
If the problems with your keyboard are software related, the issue may lie with your OS or your keyboard’s drivers. The possible reason may be as if your driver is corrupt, out of date, or simply missing.
In Windows laptops, the Control Panel’s Device Manager may help you identify the problem. If you see a yellow triangle or a red circle on top of the entry for your keyboard in Device Manager, it means the keyboard’s driver is either corrupt or simply not working for some reason. Right-click the affected device and click Update driver software. Windows will check for a new driver, and if it finds one, the installation process will begin. Alternatively, you can use Windows Update to check for new keyboard drivers.

Fix one keyboard key
1. Pop out the key
2. Use a flathead screwdriver to get the key out. Just get the tip of the screwdriver under the key and push down on the other side. With a bit of leverage, the key will pop right out.
3. Get a piece of a straw and cut off a little more than an inch of a clean plastic straw.
4. Fold the straw in half lengthwise and insert it into the bottom of the key. It should now be sticking out quite a bit.
5. Cut off the straw so that a few millimeters are sticking out. You now have an enhanced key that sticks out more and will be better at engaging the button inside the keyboard.
6. On most keyboards, this is just a matter of placing the key in the right place and pushing down. You’ll know when you get it right.
7. Test out the button and see if it’s responsive now. If it’s working, but it feels a little stiff, then pop the key back out, trim a tiny bit more of the straw off, and put it back in.
